Remediation of kerosene-affected plot of land

Decontamination of more than 25,000 cubic meters completed

Litoclean has completed the decontamination of more than 25,000 cubic meters of soil and 100,000 cubic meters of water contaminated by kerosene.

The land, located in the vicinity of Barcelona Airport, had been affected by a leak from a pipeline carrying Jet A-1 aviation fuel, which required complex remediation of both soil and groundwater.

Remediation consisted of excavation, treatment and subsequent backfilling of the affected land. Excavation and backfilling required continuous pumping of water, which was decontaminated at the treatment plant to reduce the concentration of dissolved hydrocarbons and lower the water table.

The soils were remediated by aeration and forced oxidation.
