The companies and entities that make up the project, including Litoclean, have held their annual meeting in Germany.
The international Phy2Climate project has met these days to evaluate the progress achieved during its second year of life. The Consortium meeting 2023 was held from June 26 to 28 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT in Sulzbach-Rosenberg (Germany).
This project aims to study the feasibility of phytoremediation for the generation of biofuel in biorefineries and its subsequent commercialization. Its approach is not only focused on the land reclamation technique itself from plant activity and biomass generation (WP2) and the subsequent generation of biofuel from it (WP3), but also assesses the impact of the project from a sustainability point of view (WP4) and has an associated business plan to assess its feasibility (WP5). Finally, WP6 addresses the legal requirements for a potential full-scale implementation of the project, while WP7 enhances the corresponding dissemination efforts.
LITOCLEAN participates in the WP2 of the projectin one of the four selected sites, implementing phytoremediation works in a site affected by hydrocarbons.
In the two years of the project, progress has been remarkable. On the one hand, the contaminated sites are achieving a reduction in their impact and biomass generation , and the biorefineries of the WP3 facilities are managing to generate the biofuel that closes the project circle. On the other hand, the rest of the WP continue to advance adequately in terms of sustainability, project viability, legal-administrative and informative aspects.
With these results, the third year of Phy2Climate is highly encouraging.
