Investigation and remediation of chemical plant affected by Cumene, Benzene, Phenol and Acetone.

Action:
Soil and groundwater remediation.

Location:
Spain

Customer:
Confidential

Methods:
Remediation by aVacuum remediation

Products:
benzene, cumenephenol and acetone.

Background information

Since 2005, buried networks have been affected and have been leaking throughout the plant, spilling product, mostly cumene, directly into the ground.
An estimated maximum of approximately 9000m3 of supernatant product in the subsoil.

This product area corresponds to 2/5 of the chemical plant, thus understanding a very localized situation in the production areas.

Objective and limitations

Free phase elimination hydrocarbon and reduction of concentrations.

Methodology applied

Extraction by pumping and simultaneous high vacuum, focused on the supernatant of the affected areas.
It is estimated about 4 remediation modules and about 70 piezometers of direct action of the 240 points spread throughout the plant.

All actions are focused on two production areas where the greatest impact has been found.
